A realistic OTR week is 2,200–2,800 miles under hours-of-service limits. Recruiters sometimes quote 3,000+ — before you count on it, check whether the fleet actually turns that kind of freight week after week.
How much is a 1 cent per mile raise worth?
At 2,500 miles a week, one extra cent per mile is $25/week — $1,300 a year. A 5-cent bump is $6,500 a year. Always negotiate CPM in whole cents, and check the raise against miles actually dispatched.
Is CPM pay better than percentage pay?
CPM pays steady regardless of freight rates; percentage pay (usually 25–30% of the linehaul) wins when rates are strong and loses when they are soft. Run both against the same expected weekly miles and revenue to compare offers honestly.
